What is an open work permit?
Most foreign nationals who want to come to Canada to work must have legal permission through a work permit. Open Work Permits are a type of work permit that allows foreign workers to work legally in Canada.
Who can apply for an open work permit?
You may be eligible for an open work permit if you fall under one of the following categories:
1. You are an international student who has graduated from a selected educational institution and is eligible for the post-graduation work permit program.
2. You have applied for permanent residence in Canada under one of the Canadian immigration programs.
3. You are a dependent family member (eg, spouse or partner) of a person who has applied for permanent residence.
4. You are the spouse or partner of a skilled worker or international student.
You have a temporary residence permit. 5. You are a refugee, asylum seeker, protected person or a member of their family.
6. You are subject to an unenforceable removal order.

8. You are a young worker participating in the working holiday program. 9. You are a student who is unable to pay the tuition fees.
